RE: [C-200] Firmware 03-04-110530-21-POP-408 (03-04-110520-21-POP-408 Apps) (3.06.2011)
So if you haven't modified the files with a CSI installed app...do you still need to unplug the hard-drive, re-flash with usb, etc...all those steps in the first post or does the normal firmware update work?

If you install an app it modify's ftpserver.sh to add a line to point to the csi startup file. But that actually wont effect it. its when you get into apps like region reset and LTU which modify part of the system files and replaces them as the system boots up. The instructions are there because like you said most people dont understand the effects installing something with CSI does. This isnt the first time apps in csi have caused problems either. even before this firmware some of the apps would not allow the drive to unmount causing firmware updates to fail. This is the problem with an open system that people are allowed to tweak, if you tweak it expect extra steps for a good flash, if you dont tweak it you should be 100% good to go the normal way. regards, glenn C-200 Synology 1010+/510 20tb |
