RE: [C-200] Firmware 03-04-110530-21-POP-408 (03-04-110520-21-POP-408 Apps) (3.06.2011)
All products have a development curve and it looks like the c200 is flattening and probably about as far as it will go.... look at the B110 (its almost in reverse). Not a big problem for me as I don't need blu-ray in it (far better to have a dedicated drive for that) and it's doing what I want with a few exceptions.
Plus my needs are changing. I now no longer want the whine of HDD when I'm listening to music so that's on the NAS and WHS now, from another room, and silent. Movies are fine off it as you don't notice the disk. But why would I buy another syabas product at the moment? I want something with an interactive remote control built in, and possibly integrated with other devices / controllers. I'm not convinced syabas have the right market focus at the moment... slightly worried they've lost it; but from a consumer point of view maybe one of the big boys will come in and gee the market up. Especially for audio; I want a remote that allows me to browse fully without the TV on. Maybe Sonos is worth another look. And I dont mind paying a bit extra for something that works out of the box (unlike my c200 which was one of the first). And before anyone mentions Android , iPad, and a whole load of other additions... I have tried quite a few but none have done it as simply as it should be. It should be interactive without loading bits from a PC etc. It should be mainstream like a telly... some thing my granny could buy and have working within 15 minutes. The apps are great, and the user help from the 'community' is superb; but I'd say it's at a keen user level and way off your average users expectation. Could my granny load the TCP bits and download tools to the PCH... NO ! |
