It is a bug. I'm not sure it's known though.

There's a similar one where if you use the right arrow to jump 30s at a time and jump past the end of the movie you can get the time left on the screen afterwards which can be really difficult to get rid of.

The code for the OSD overlays is pretty ropey when it comes to unexpected condition handling.
