RE: [C-200] Firmware 03-04-110530-21-POP-408 (03-04-110520-21-POP-408 Apps) (3.06.2011)
It isn't specifically an HD-DVD issue. It's a bug in the Dolby Digital Plus decoder affecting the digital outs and HDMI (although analogue is fine). I've only encountered it so far on DD+ HD-DVDs from Universal and Paramount (whereas Warner's DD+ encodes play fine) but who's to say it won't affect any Blu-ray discs that are encoded with DD+? The disc format is irrelevant, it's the implementation that's the issue.
Fortunately DD+ Blu-rays are rare and Dave_D's found one that plays okay but it is one of the mandatory Blu-ray codecs, so they are obliged to support it as part of maintaining compliance with their Blu-ray license. Also, this was meant to be a bug-fix/stability firmware, so what's with the new Flash-based audio player? It's introducing more bugs by changing software player than actually fixing existing ones. Thoughts on Syabas support? Share them here |

RE: [C-200] Firmware 03-04-110530-21-POP-408 (03-04-110520-21-POP-408 Apps) (3.06.2011)
As I said at the time this firmware was not going to be a fix-all firmware and the expectation that it would fix-all were ridiculously over-inflated. The introduction of a newer audio app would have been a requirement from Syabas. It's working well now in RC3 and those who use audio a lot report FLAC and 96/192 playing fine as well.
As Dave_D has said no where on Mantis is there any report of this 'well-known' bug, ive searched the first three pages of the 200 series Bug threads and can't see any clamour for it or even a thread itself. It affects a very limited audience. The disc format is not irrelevant as it is from the disc format that you get the video and audio codecs that each disc format manufactures wishes to pursue. Bluray and HD-DVD were pushing for different audio and video codecs. That is it now the end of discussions on beta/rc firmware in the open forum. The Changelog thread is updated for you to see what is coming. We now have to spend time testing. Remember as it states in the forum rules/policy any forward information given on the open forum is done with the best of intentions. However it may or may not happen. Second time of asking and I know I ended up getting involved. So no more now please hopefully the firmware is only a few days away after QA and the User Testing is over. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

Is the C-200 now abandon because of the 300 series? I see no more new firmware since the last 3/6/2011...
