I haven't noticed this question being asked but maybe I've missed it?

This firmware update has to be done online. Correct?
You have to have this update to do any future updates. Correct?

Ok, so a person does not take this update or does not know about it and at a future date, they want to install an update.

How do they get at this update to do any future ones?

Werner explained that the future online update will force you to update to this stepstone FW first.

Offline update will not work with the message that the stepstone FW is a prerequisite.

Ahhh ok, so this update does not just "go away". The online update will drive you towards this update. Cool!

i hope that it will have a useful error msg when trying to update a later FW without the stepstone FW (using usb).
And not just "error stepstone FW required" and nothing else.
Many people will not understand that at all and come here crying what is wrong with my pch.

What it should say is something like this "this update requires a stepstone firmware that could only be installed using online update please do that first".
And even better would be a continuing text (and automatic link) saying if you click ok you will be taken to the online update so you could install that update.

A large number of people might not even be aware of this forum and shouldn't have to resort to diagnosing errors updating the firmware via a forum anyway. It should be self-explanatory on the device.
