[MLMJ] - Upgrading to Movie Collector 8???

I have just installed and had a quick look at Movie Collector 8 and thought I would share with you my thoughts relative to MLMJ.

Pros:
MoC 8 has some very nice additions including:

• enhanced TV episodes, including downloading of episode plots, air date, runtime, etc. I am not 100% certain where it gets these from, but it looks like TVDb.com which is great.
• more direct linking of media files to episode data - this would make handling episodes in MLMJ much easier
• support/download of "backdrops". This is fantastic and would allow for automation of a process that in MLMJ is pretty manual
• download of links to trailers and backdrops for TV episodes - this is OK, but it would be nicer to have option to download trailers and episode backdrops for storing locally. This would permit integration of these elements with MLMJ. Not sure if it will work very well to only have MLMJ have "links" to these elements on the Internet.
  

Cons:
From what I can tell here are some of the remaining limitations

• While there is a field for IMDB rating information it does not look like it has the ability to pull information from IMDB as v5.6 does. As such it looks like some of the current functionality in MLMJ would not work including IMDB Top 250 ratings and IMDB "Fun Stuff"
• Looks like primary source for information is the MovieCollector proprietary databases. This may not be all that bad - I'm not really sure how good their databases are.
• Looks like they have not enhanced functionality around Actors - so processing "Actor bios" in MLMJ would have to continue the way it currently does (which is pretty kludgy IMHO)
  

Conclusion
For me, while the Episode and Backdrop management functionality would be terrific, but I have really gotten to like the IMDB Top 250 and in particular the "Fun Stuff" (trivia, etc. about the movie), so I don't think I am going to upgrade.


What do you think? Are there other advantages/disadvantages that you can see with MoC8? Please share your thoughts.

Yes I am loving the extra background backdrops and posters.
Also the movie trailers are great too. You can download the movie trailer and add it in like you do the movie files. There's a new button there to add trailer. We just need mlmj to be updated to utilise all this new stuff.
The link to the web for the trailers should work as you can run web based stuff from the popcorn.
I do find that the search is restricted to mostly there web database but hopefully when kollection gets up to date we will be able to use their search tools.
Wish list is to have mlmj to export the background fanart with the poster and covers with the other info offer the top.
Look forward to see what is coming

I understand that Kollection no longer pulls information from IMDB either (under pressure from CollectorZ). That is why I reverted back to v5.6 of MoC in the first place.

I was not able to make the MLMJ script run with MoC 8 at all.
I had to downgrade the MoC to 6.62 to make it run.
I dont know why.

I had a problem with 8.0 build 4 or 5 (can't remember which - one worked, the other didn't). Updated to v8.1 build 1 and the script now works again. It will stop every now and then, before the genre export, but not often. Regards, Allan.
