dts passthrough coax or nmt mistake
Still seeking a way to get sound out of dts. I understand no decoding and the licensing issue but in another post someone mentioned passthrough using coax.
Is this true, meaning no passthrough using hdmi?
Or is that just whistling dixie.

You can passthrough DTS via coaxial or HDMI to an AV receiver or say Logitech Z5500 for decoding. You can passthrough to your TV BUT there is little chance of your TV having a DTS decoder in it.

My PCH is connected by HDMI to my Marantz 6001 A/V. I get good DTS sound from DVD's. I do not get good DTS sound from 1080p MKV's, the audio has drop outs. I don't know if, or how high this issue is on Syabas' buglist.

DTS sound in the PCH is set to RAW. Do you hear DTS audio from your DVD player? So is it just the PCH that's not giving you audio?

Roma have you tried remuxing your mkv to a ts? I struggled to stream 1080p mkv with dts over a 100Mbit wired connection, this was from a NAS through a switch that the PH was also connected too.

Dts with dvd player is fine. I assure all, everything is hooked up and setup as well is fine. When using hdmi dts can only be chosen as raw. I even tried convert vob to mkv and the receiver is showing surround sound, however mkv is stuck on buffering and freezes. I believe the mkv would get dts surround if it wouldn't freeze up.

Remux using gdsmux and the problem should go away.

I don't want to remux my files, I want the PCH to play them properly when they are within the specs. I don't want to need to work with workarounds all the time.

You may not want to but you will find that when run through mkvmerge or delaycut that they work correctly. Audioconverter by Heartwave has the option to do all this with the press of one button.
Ask yourself this why do they play correctly after going through these processes? Perhaps its more likely that there are errors in the DTS audio stream that need correcting?

Yeah sure, every single 1080p mkv file with DTS has errors in the DTS stream. Ofcourse this has nothing to do with the PCH  What am I thinking....

You are the first user to report that EVERY DTS track has problems.

If you have NEVER had a DTS track play without a problem then please provide details of the releases that cause a problem to see if EVERY user has a problem. You mention 1080p as if it has an impact, are you sure that as 1080p involves the highest bitrate transfer its not a network issue as audio dropouts are the first sign that the network cant cope.

I'm not the first user that reports audio drop outs with DTS tracks in a 1080p MKV container. And no, it has nothing to do with network since I play them from the internal HDD. I don't know about 720p files with DTS, I know an AC3 track runs just fine. I know it's a PCH issue since my laptop runs the files just fine. Most likely not every user experiences this issue since it seems to me every batch of PCH's has it's own, new issues.

I do not mean to be offensive. But it annoys me every time I (or someone) posts something about a bug, people jump up saying it has nothing to do with the PCH and you need to apply workaround x or y.

I want to download a movie and watch it. I understand some failures due to bad coding. I DON'T want to have to remux every file first, again go on the internet to find a subtitle, find out if it is in sync with the movie, do another search, start over again. This has a negative effect on the fun I could have from the PCH.

I'm not looking for workarounds, plenty around here. I'm looking for a fix.

It annoys me everytime when the first reaction is to blame the PCH.

I did not say you were the first user to report DTS dropouts I said that you were the first user to report that EVERY DTS file has problems. Why are you distinguishing between 1080p and other files that have DTS audio?

What have subtitles go to do with anything?

Run the file through Audioconverter making sure you have selected cleanup DTS track and you will have an mkv file with a clean DTS track with all the original subtitles in it. Its as quick as Unraring the file.

That could be because the PCH is often to blame.

I'll give your audioconverter a try. I'll report back with the results.

It may often be to blame and I do appreciate that, it just makes it even harder to get across the point when its not to blame.

Here's an example of what I mean with avi files:-

Occasionally a file that plays OK on the computer will go out of synch after being recoded or simply being burned and subsequently played back on a standalone. This is neither the fault of ARC or your standalone but is usually due to a problem with the original file.

The problem comes about due to a peculiarity in the method used by VDub(Mod) to apply a positive delay when used to synchronise an audio track with the visual.

When VDub is used the problem is confined to ac3 audio only.
When VDubMod is used the problem is found with both ac3 and mp3 audio.

The problem occurs because VDub(Mod) uses blocks of zero bytes instead of valid audio data to simulate silence when applying a positive delay to an audio track. This works for computer playback but during recoding or after burning and playing back, the zeros are not recognised as audio data and so the AV goes out of synch.

That took some time to find and originally everyone was blaming the DVD players, chipsets, burning apps, etc.

There may be similar problems with audio in mkv from some of the tools used in audio ripping. I dont know, what is known is that running the track through DelayCut (inc in audioconverter as clean DTS track option) an older audio tool for repairing DTS tracks fixes the issue.

To get it 'fixed' in your terms will take investigation, feedback of what files have the issue and where in the file, timestamp, so that Syabs can hopefully find it and if possible resolve it or certainly explain why it happens. Upload any samples that you have.
