Looking to Replace the IO-Box 100
The IO-Box has served me well for several years but alas the company that created it appears to be defunct. It still works fine except by BitTorrent WebUi service is no longer working. In any event, I have a 1T HDD in the box and use it as a server for other computers in the house--we have a few laptops and a couple desktops and we store all information to that server, which is synchronized with another computer HDD.

Anyway, I am looking for a new media server and it seems the A-200 would serve my needs. I use it to play primarily downloaded video--it streams through my received to my Plasma by HDMI.

Can I simply move the HDD that is in there over to the A-200? I know its formatted using a Linux OS and runs a number of NMT applications.

RE: Looking to Replace the IO-Box 100
The A200/210 will require you to erase the HDD. The NMT Apps installation is different on the 200 series than those 100 series (8635) players. There's an extra partition.

A400: SD Card(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD ROM (SH-B083L(SB01)), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV Panasonic TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

Thank you for the response. I figured I'd probably need to start over. Do you recommend the 200 or the 210. I am also looking to use it for Netflix.

RE: Looking to Replace the IO-Box 100
I'd go with the A-210 for better cooling, It's also in a stylish black metal case, compared to the A-200 that's in a plastic case with heating problems and an annoying fan.

Also unless you plan to use Playon with it, you can forget about Netflix.

Thanks for the response. Why is netflix a problem and what is playon? How does it make it better?

RE: Looking to Replace the IO-Box 100
Just like the A-110, the A-210 just does not support netflix. Simple as that.

The only way to get Netflix accessible is through Playon. It's an application that runs in the background on your PC using UPNP and DLNA and the popcorn hour can access it, and stream streams from Netflix, hulu, etc, from your computer to your popcorn hour. Not the greatest of means to access netflix or other services, but it's the only option US customers really have for there Popcorn hours.

And you got to pay for use of Playon and all it's features, either monthly, yearly, or a one time payment.

Okay--well Netflix is not a big deal--I actually have been looking to replace my 3 year old Blu-Ray player so I will just look for one with Netflix capability.

By the way--how does it format hard drives? Is it Linux based like the IoBox? Can you read from/write to it from Windows XP and/or Windows 7 natively?

RE: Looking to Replace the IO-Box 100
It formats the HDD if you install the NMT Apps on the HDD to Ext. However you can install the NMT Apps onto a USB stick and format your HDD to NTFS so you can use USB Slave on a Windows PC and dont require Ext drivers.
You can be really clever and let it format the HDD and then format the large storage partition yourself to NTFS for the best of both worlds:-

That's good--I like being clever! Big Grin

Is it better than the IOBox 100HD? Anyone have both to compare what it does better/not as good?

RE: Looking to Replace the IO-Box 100
I would say it is without question. Or having to compare them.

The IOBox was basically a generic A-110 (Only cause of OEM). So best thing would be to compare things from the A-110 to the A-210.

Some of the big improvements are a New Sigma chipset that means more horse power, and the use of flash lite (Apps Market, NMJ, Eversion skin for YAMJ.)

You can now play HD audio in MKV files, PGS support, etc. These are some of the advantages of it.
