RE: 8910 - worth waiting for?
(01-10-2012 02:51 PM)Shepardos Wrote: http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/...604724.htm The only problem with that is that in 2010 Dune 'marketed' a 8910 player at £3,000. In 2011 it dropped to £2,000. so it may come to £1,000 in 2012 or we may never see it from them. Competition is good though so however gets a 8910 player out there first may steal a march on the other. We could do with more then just the two players in the top end of the media player market. By top end I mean for those of us with average pockets so i'm excluding the £1000 plus ranges. We have been waiting for 3 years for the 8910 player so current models wont stop their release. We are too hungry. RE: 8910 - worth waiting for?
Well, for me the biggest leap forward with new Sigma chips is GLES 2.0 support, which means XBMC as jukebox. When that happens, the NMT will get all cards over any kind of htpc, boxee, etc

RE: 8910 - worth waiting for?
there's fast embedded hardware that runs xbmc now for low cost. I'll bet this chip will make an htpc be the cheap way to run xbmc.

RE: 8910 - worth waiting for?
I wouldnt wait. Info around the forums is Sigmas SDK needs more work and Dune HD Pro (8910) probably wont hit the wild until end of this year.

RE: 8910 - worth waiting for?
The chip doesn't exist yet and I'm pretty sure there's some legally anyone that knows isn't going to talk. That leaves it all speculation..
My opinion, it's sigma's first high end chip and it'll run really well when out. Also being a high end chip it means there's some high end companies that are going to look at using this. Those companies have some pretty high end licenses. I'm pretty sure a few of those licenses won't be possible with a brand new chip that's not current on protection. aka cinavia. This chip can't come out without the ability for units that cost more than htpcs to have the whistles they need for high end clients. |

As the philosopher said: Never wait for good things that might come, but go and enjoy the good things that are here..
PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box |

By surfing the net regarding this chip, I dont think it is worth the wait.
Why?? Price. Thats all It wont get lower than $800 at least!! It depends though if win the lottery, ill definitely buy 10 popcorn hour C-400 with 8910 sigma chips and give 9 of those here to anyone randomly. lolz.

RE: 8910 - worth waiting for?
Yup.. I agree. It won't see the light of day as far as media players are concerned.
Plus the C series was meant to have Bluray playback license hence it means it will have to put Cinavia on it which makes playing backups no longer possible. A200 connected to 32" Samsung UA32C5000 C200 connected to Denon 1610 AVR and 42" LG 42LH50YR Encore ENHGS-500 5 port Gigabit switch. |

RE: 8910 - worth waiting for?
I'm sure sigma will come up a non-VXP version of 8910
but still has 3D bluray capability for low end user |
