lack of support
Hi all. Not sure if this is the right place so apologies if it should be somewhere else.

Just wondered if my situation was usual. Just after my warrenty expired on my C-200 the power supply died. I ordered a new power supply from Popcorn Hour. Now about six months later this one has now died. I logged a call with Popcorn hour and the reply I had was that they only offer 30 days warrenty on power supplies. This doesn't seem like much of a warrenty or customer focussed business so will be buying a media server replacement from someone else.

30 days, I'd expect that from a refurb or repair, I've bought second hand stuff with 30 days warranty, lol.

The difference is most stores offer a standard return policy of 30 days then usually a manufacturer has its own year long after that. So pch offers the normal 30day like a store would but because there is no manufacturer as it being an ODM part you dont get a year warranty at least that is how most things are in the US

30 days is pretty poor for a component in a premium product

I don't remember the last product I purchased with longer than 30 days.. although if your blowing power supplies that fast you might want to get someone to test out your power and make sure it's ok.

RE: lack of support
Just because you have poor consumer protection and companies that are not obliged to provide products support for longer than 30 days doesn't mean the rest of us should feel satisfied or that we are in fact "spoiled". We should all have excellent service from companies that take our money.

RE: lack of support
^^ I agree we should all have nice protection but we do not, Was just pointing out that is pretty common practice the way they handle there business. I know its the reason a lot of you use resellers rather then direct from a company

RE: lack of support
Yup... I prefer resellers myself. Costs more, but it's my comfort zone.

RE: lack of support
At least we can feel a little better about paying so much more for stuff here in Europe. Tongue

Something like this would have 2 or 5 years warranty (I'm not sure which, it differs. TV's and phones have 5 at least) here offered by the re-/e-tailer.

17TB WHS 2011 w/FlexRaid -> PCH C200: Hitachi 2,5" 160GB & LG CH08 BD-ROM -> Onkyo TX-SR507B -> Pioneer KURO PDP-LX5090

RE: lack of support
Simcat i am not a jurist but

if you got the manufacturer of your device and opent a ticket telling your power supply died within the time of expected lifetime (european laws .... ) and then they told you too get a new power supply ....

in that particalur case european laws could work out on this part ... (hence they have too make sure your device can work the whole lifetime) . and in this case you could demand the 1 year warranty on the new device ....

if you just orderd an device in the usa .... i guess you are on the usa laws ....

however you did bought your device at a reseller your should have contacted them for the powersupply.

i am not sure about this it is just a wild guess Tongue
