Can you create a video playlist? Or easily queue video items
Can you create a video playlist? Or easily queue video items?
I do not yet own a Networked Media Tank but I was thinking of replacing my xBMC system with one of these because I'm fed up of the noise level of my xBox and I don't like using my controller and would rather have a remote for my media system. The only things I was unable to figure out on the forums or wiki docs is if you can easily queue or create video playlists. This is a big concern for me because I often create music video and tv show playlists. Does any one if it can easily be done using the remotes on either the Popcorn or IstarHD systems? Slicster |

No more XBMC comparisons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No problem with asking specific questions but no more comparisons. The XbMC subject has been done to death. Please use search here's a start:- http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=5527 A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

?
Did you read what I wrote in the message body? I'm actually asking a specific question and only put up a comparison poll because it seemed like a good option to add since my question relates to a feature I have on my xBMC.

I obviously did read what you wrote as that was why I only deleted the poll. The reason for deleting the poll that we have had enough of what is better the xbmc or the PCH etc.
No problems with you asking questions at all. There is a user app in development for easy playlist creation:- http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=5461 http://www.networkedmediatank.com/viewtopic.php?t=5800 If you stream with myihome pressing play will play all files in a folder. Thanks
Thanks for the info. I was hoping there was going to be a button on the remote that allows you to queue items as you browse though them. I guess I'll add it as a feature request if ever I purchase one.

No nothing like that yet but seems like a natural progression.

RE: Can you create a video playlist? Or easily queue video items
FWIW... I own two PCH A-100s (with a 3rd on order) and three xboxes running XBMC (which the PCHs will eventually replace entirely). So far, the feature I most long for on the PCH is the ability to queue videos in a playlist, regardless of location, like on the xbox, followed closely by the ability to play a file in a folder and have it play all following files in the folder in succession by default, like on the xbox.
Due to cpu limitations, a huge clunky ugly box and a less than graceful remote (unless you invest time to map all the xbox commands to a remote), I see xbmc on the xbox to be a dying breed. However, it's hard not to wish that the PCH firmware and software could match the xbmc application on a feature for feature basis, because in terms of hardware, the PCH clearly has the xbox beat hands down. Forgive me for wanting it all. Insert here some witty quote or observation. |

RE: Can you create a video playlist? Or easily queue video items
the PCH doesn't beat the XBOX because the XBOX has a fast processor

The original xbox which isn't made anymore? The original xbox which runs a Pentium III 733mhz cpu? Really? Thank you. That's good to know. I need to investigate SwissCenter. In fact, I need to investigate the whole world of apps that will run on PCH. I wish that there was a comprehensive comparison of apps, broken down by which require an onboard HDD in the PCH (mine don't have them), which require a networked PC to host the app 24/7 (I prefer not to go that route), which require a networked PC occasionally (such as YAMJ) and so forth. All of my media files are stored on a NAS (Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo). My concern with using a pc-based app which runs 24/7 is that my data would flow from the NAS to the PC to the PCH, thereby creating a ton of network traffic. Then again, I wouldn't mind running an app 24/7 on a PC if the app just instructed the PCH what data to play and when (so the media file just made a single, straight trip from the NAS to the PCH). Insert here some witty quote or observation. |

The Popcorn Hour (and other SMP8634 and SMP8635-based devices such as the other NMTs (from iStar, eGreat, HDX900, Elektron, etc.) and the latest DvicO TviX models) has a 300 Mhz processor.
