RE: DTS audio drop outs
FWIW remux fixed my problems. So that really looks like an issue with readahead buffer size Sad

RE: DTS audio drop outs
Finaly solved the 1080p dropouts.
Just went back to firmware:

Firmware Version : 01-17-090204-15-POP-403
Release Date : 01 June 2009

Audio DTS goes smooth en no drop outs, strange that the newer firmware has the drop out issue.

Will test with the newer firmwares, step by strep!

hdparm already configured /dev/hda with readahead 512. I guess it is maximum.
sysctl does not have readahead params in that kernel.

Anyway, these params are for local filesystem only - they would not help with SMB.

Now, the biggest question is the following: is there any way to customize /bin/mono read-ahead buffer size?. Who could know?

PS BTW, changing PCH audio output for DTS from DTS to Analog can be used as workaround - the drop outs disappear. But of course quality suffers

I am not convinced with the answers I have read.
If you are using a NAS or some other external drive try loading the file onto an internal SATA drive mounted internally to the PCH.
Even though the video streaming exhibits no problem
I have done this. and every DTS audio file then plays perfectly.

Copying from NAS to local HDD does not resolve the issue. That is how I decided it was not about networking.

Yesterday i upgraded to the latest firmware, tested witlh The karate kid 1080p DTS.mkv and yes, the drop-outs are back.
Downgraded tot 01-17-090204-15-POP-403 (01 June 2009), drop-outs are gone.
Will test with later releases between Juni 2009 and latest.

It seems, there is a change in the firmware and not something with the popcorn itself.
Can somebody explain why the earlier firmware, doen't contain the drop-outs?

RE: DTS audio drop outs
The two versions you are comparing are using different major releases of the underlying SDK.

This problem was reported exactly three years ago!!! This will NEVER be fixed. We just need to accept that and move on.

RE: DTS audio drop outs
I've never experienced such problem with my Egreat 31C but recently I tried cross-flash to PCH A100. And after successful flashing the newest PCH firmware I noticed the DTS drop-outs at the very first file I tried. Naturally, I flashed the latest original Egreat firmware back. It's based on 091022 release in case someone is interested.

What a dumb remark... it's a symptom that can have different causes...

PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10
13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box
