Format Hard Drive or Clear for Sale
I am replacing one of my A-100s with an A-200, the A-100 has a hard drive in it, not really sure why I don't store any movies on there and years ago when I got it I messed around with some apps a bit but don't use those currently. What is the best way to clean up the HDD before I sell it? Could there be anything on there of any use to anyone?

RE: Format Hard Drive or Clear for Sale
Since you live in the united states and there is copyright very very important ....
I would use tools which clear your harddrive completely .... (takes a lot of time) there are tools which overwrite files 7 times .... (one time is good enough for most situations ... ) and after that format it .... If there is no copyrighted / personal stuff just put in a windows/linux pc and format it ... (1 time quick format) If there is personal stuff on it which you do not want too be found ... (1 time quick , modify partitions ... 1 time full and on linux use DD to clear the first 512 bytes) |

RE: Format Hard Drive or Clear for Sale
If there is no personally identifiable information on the drive, i.e. credit card numbers, name, address, etc. I would consider formatting the hard drive as sufficient protection.
From your perspective you have taken all reasonable steps to remove the data from the hard drive. Just because we are geeks and the first thing we do when we get a used hard drive is to run data recovery on it, does not mean that's what everyone else does... or is that just me? |

The more I think about it I will just pull the hard drive out and sell it without it. Mike |
