Need help to setup torrent in PCH A-210 --> Transmission and Magnet Links
Hi Guys,

Finally I got myself a PCH A-210 and I need help to set up the torrent function. How can I set it up so I may use magnet links? TPB which I mainly use for torrents only has magnet links now.

Been trying to use Transmission Remote GUI on my Vista PC, but cannot set it up correctly...

I'm a complete beginner at home networking so realy need assistance...

Thanks

EDIT: as I've finally solved my problem to use magnet links with Transmission and Transmission Remote GUI and as sugested by chris57 i'll show how I've done it. I think this will mainly be useful to beginners as it is nothing new to someone with a little experience in NMT.

1- make sure you have an updated version of Transmission in your PCH or it won't be able to use magnet links correctly. You may use the CSI to update Transmission.

2- download and install Transmission Remote GUI (TRGUI) on your PC. Don't forget to check the boxes to set TRGUI as default for torrent files and magnet links.

3- on TRGUI, go to the menu "Tools" and open "Connection options". In the "Remote host" field input your PCH ip (only xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) and in the "Port" field input "9091" (or "8077" for the default torrent client, but I found out that it didn't handle magnet links correctly).

Now you should be able to track your torrents in the TRGUI and add new ones by using the torrent file or magnet link.

I really hope this is useful to newbies as myself.

RE: Need help to setup torrent in PCH A-210
As it has been a couple of days now and no replys so far, maybe if I specify my question a little bit, it is easier to get help.

What should I put in the Remote Host field in the connection options window of the Transmission Remote GUI to link with the PCH torrent client.

I would realy appreciate some help.

Thanks

RE: Need help to setup torrent in PCH A-210
Does Transmission handle magnet links?

With .tnt files you simply download the .tnt file and then using the nzbget webui simply browse to the .tnt and upload it. What happens if you donwload the magnet file and browse and upload that?
Have you installed the NMT Apps? Have you turned ON the torrent app?

Hi Chris57,

When I installed the Transmission Remote GUI, I was asked to set it as default for handling magnet links as well as torrent files, so I'm prety sure it does handle magnet links.

I already used the pch torrent client web UI (with torrent file), and no issue there, but as I mainly use TPB to search for torrents and they only use magnet links now, a way to use it in pch would be perfect. I was not able to use the magnet link in the pch torrent web UI.

I hope i was clear...

Yes, Transmission Remote GUI (TRG) is able to handle magnet links.

I've never used TRG with the default torrent client, but it should work. In the Remote Host field you enter the IP of your PCH. As port you should enter 8077.

Hi DathRarhek,

Thanks for the reply.

Just tried it (Remote host -> \\ip.of.pch & port 8077) and also (remote host -> \\ip.of.pch & port 51413 which is the one on pch torrent app) and still no good. I get the message "host not found"...

Can't imagine what I'm doing wrong... just wondering if anyone has tried this before. Maybe it is not possible...

I will use the torrents with magnet link in the pc and then share the files with the pch. It's an added step but more straightforward i guess...

Thank you for the support.

"\\ip" is not an ip address it's a SMB url! Just put in the actual IP address without the two backward slashes.

Thank you DathRarhek,

It worked perfectly. So simple...

After I inputed the ip, Transmission GUI immediatly showed a torrent I am downloading through PCH. Just what I needed.

Thanks...

Sounds like a useful guide addition if you can help out other users.

Hi Chris57,

I just followed DathRarhek's indication. Nothing new, I suppose.

However, later I will edit the initial post to show what I've done.

Now, communication between the Transmission Remote GUI and Transmission in the PCH works well, but still cannot use the magnet links bcecause, I suppose, I need to update Transmission in the PCH to newer version. I will check out the CSI thread to do so...

I will ask for assistance once again, if needed.

Thanks.

EDIT: I've just updated Transmission in the PCH using DathRarhek's v2.50 app in the CSI and now magnet links work perfectly on the Transmission Remote GUI...

RE: Need help to setup torrent in PCH A-210 --> Transmission and Magnet Links
Hi, I'm trying to do the same but what should the path map be on the remote gui to the pch, the browse option doesnt work? Its downloading happily now on the laptop but I need it doing this on the pch.
update: booted this morning and the magnet link is now downloading on the pch. Not sure where it will end up, hopefully in the pch Download, should the path be /share/Download or /share/pch/Download ?
