RE: New to popcorn bluray backup ?
Yes it will play backups and because it also has a bluray license you do not need to remove encryption from your backup.

Same for DVD.

You will need to set Regions for BD and DVD.

It will not backup for you though. That would be breaking licensing conditions.

It will only backup itself CD's via the Apps Market CD Ripper app.

RE: New to popcorn bluray backup - C300?
The C series has a bluray license whereas the A series does not. The C series plays discs if you fit a ROM drive but will play backups that you have stored anywhere on your home network. So you could backup using AnyDVD on your PC and then play the backup on your TV using your C300 through your network.

You can of course just transfer your backups from you PC using your network to a HDD located in the C300. You can also use the front loading slot to remove a HDD and then connect it to a PC using a HDD dock, then transfer to the HDD and place it back in the C300 via the front loading slot. Some even have a HDD for each genre or letters if stored alphabetically.

Basically its flexible, but as you and I both know backing up bluray discs is illegal in the UK and so can not be sold on a device to do that. That's why you purchase AnyDVD etc. and use your PC. DVD the same and also CD in the UK. How they have decided to allow CD ripping I'm not sure but I'm not asking either!!

Have a look here:

The big Apps in the Apps Market are BBC iPlayer and Youtube.

If you have any skills in software then you can sign-up for the SDK/API here:-
https://developer.popbox.com/c/devuser/home

We have lots of server apps on the device itself for SMB/NFS/http/upnp. You can also install opkg packages through the community software installer (CSI).
