A-110 Network streaming

I was curious if anyone can verify whether or not an old issue has been resolved with the latest, albeit pretty old, firmware on the A-110. I recall when I first got my A-110 a way back and first set up YAMJ to stream my media, the key was to use http to serve 1080p data to the A-110. Using http you were able to prebuffer some of the video in order to get seamless playback. Essentially it allegedly made the videos play better.

Therefore, at the time I got a CF to SATA adapter and loaded up my jukebox and went to town never looking back. Until recently, when I was changing things around in my setup. I had gotten an A-210 which was able to playback from a network share without issue and so I went with it and the A-110 got pretty neglected till recently I wanted to be able to place it in its new home in the bedroom.

I started to poke around and the NMTserver seemed intriguing, but during setup I began to wonder. I was able to play some 1080p media via the network browser and things seemed to play pretty well and I had no issue, which brought me here with my long winded simple question.

Is HTTP with a pre-buffer still required when streaming 1080p media, or can I server my media directly via a network share without issue these days? Since in some testing it seems I can, but at the same time I thought it best to ask as to not run into any issue in the future when I sit down to stream a movie.
