LOST HARD DRIVE after installing CSI + transmission 2.50
So this is what happened with my PCH200:
-What I wanted was to use magnet links in The Pirate Bay -So after reading the forums I installed CSI (Community Software Installer) in my computer -Using CSI I installed Transmission 2.50 -I also installed something called torrentexpander (or something like that), which was recommended to install after transmission. -Everything worked fine, searched for lots of magnets, started to download about 15 files, some of them downloaded completely, other were queing. I went to bed very happy because it was so easy... -Next day (today), nothing works. The worst is that the internal hard drive (local media) can't be reached from the PCH200, it has the typical red sign as if it didn't exist. Already tried the usual connect - disconnect, connect with a usb flash switched, unplug an plug again from the power. I can't even uninstall transmission cause I can't reach the hard drive. Anybody has got a clue? Thanx a lot |

RE: LOST HARD DRIVE after installing CSI + transmission 2.50
It's always a danger when you are using the CSI and userapps that as they are not supported officially there can be times when issues arise.
That's one big reason why its best to not install your NMT Apps on a HDD where you have all of your precious files and use a small USB stick. Then if you corrupt your install you only lost the USB stick content whilst you reinstall the NMT Apps and start again from scratch. You must have done something more or selected the wrong setup or something in the CSI. You dont really give us much detail and seem to have done quite a few userapps and not asked for assistance in the user developers thread. Another good idea with userapps is to take baby steps unless you are very much into Linux, Telnet, etc. So next time just update Transmission and get that working and understand where and how it is installed, started/stopped, URL's, etc. before moving on any working with multiple userapps. It's a learning curve and with all learning there will be teething issues. If you do have a USB stick for NMT Apps then the HDD not being accessed could be down to the format of it, is it NTFS as some are reporting torrent not doing well on NTFS HDD. I dont know if you have both USB and HDD as you mention internal storage, no internal USB on A300, and also a HDD. That's the kind of crucial detail you need to add. Could also simply be that the HDD has just broke.

Thank you very much Chris57, I'll try to give some more details. I am not an expert, although I try to follow carefully experts advices or tutorials. In this case I followed these instructions: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=60159 I didn't use a usb stick, because I didn't know the risks (nor even that there was that possibility). I noticed that a new folder in the HDD was created, called "Apps", and everything worked fine as I explained before, until I checked the next morning. Now if I plug in a USB stick I can have access to it and play the media. So, what can I do in order, to: First, try to recover my precious 2tb HDD with a couple of years of downloaded contents. I would do anything... Second, try to be able to use magnet links with the pch200... Thanx again. |

RE: LOST HARD DRIVE after installing CSI + transmission 2.50
First thing to do is to try and access your HDD to get your files.
Like yourself I am no Linux expert. From reading the forums you could try using fsck on your HDD using gparted boot cd and your PC. The WIKI has a page on it. That may repair the HDD and it may work when put back into the player. http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/index.php/Fsck If it doesn't you could still be able to access the HDD when in gparted or a other boot cd's and move your data onto a USB HDD or a PC internal HDD. You mention using magnet links and therefore require a user updated version of transmission. The NMT Apps install Transmission v.2.13 from memory. Think its a later version you require. Anyway the installation of the new version should stop the default version and start the updated version via a startup script on each reboot. This boot up seems to have created errors on your HDD/player. RE: LOST HARD DRIVE after installing CSI + transmission 2.50
Wow! Thanks again for showing me the path! I'll need some time to do all this, maybe a couple of weeks (being very busy lately), I'll update how it works out. I might need more info when I begin to try some of these things...
Thanx again. |

RE: LOST HARD DRIVE after installing CSI + transmission 2.50
Hello again Chris57;
I have been doing my homework and found an unexpected issue. First I'll tell what have I done: -I had to format the HDD, as I couldn't even access with a bootable Linux CD (ubuntu) -So once I assumed the loss I decided to do a clean start up. -In order to prevent what happened before I decided to use a different partition for NMT Apps and CSI apps, and another for MEDIA (but this time NTFS so that I can access more easily from windows). For this I followed this guide: HOW TO: The NMT Apps drive, NTFS for data, the CSI/iPkg apps, on one drive described in networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=50955 I must say that it's been quite a challenge for me and succeded! Note that I gave 100GB for the partition for NMT CSI, as I want to use magnet links, so the files will download there in the first place. -Then I have set up the network again with static IPs, following your article networkedmediatank.com/wiki/index.php/Network_DHCP_%26_Static_IP -Now comes the weird thing. My next step was to install transmission using CSI (which I did before losing my HDD), but after downloading CSI, from nmtinstaller.com/, I double clik on "NMT Community Software Installer.exe", and a message pops up saying: "NMT Community Software Installer.exe ha detectado un problema y debe cerrarse. Sentimos los inconvenientes ocasionados." Which means something like "NMT Community Software Installer.exe has detected a problem and must shut down. We are sorry for the inconveniences". -I have tried disconnecting the firewall and antivirus, copying the file to C:, but still the same error. I use Windows XP. -What I have changed since the last time it worked in my computer is that I have been doing some cleaning (CCleaner, Mydefrag). Now I'm quite frustrated cause when I had done the most difficult part, now I encounter an issue I can't solve, and I'm blocked! Anybody knows what's going on? Thanx a lot. (PD: the forum page wouldn't let me paste the clickabel links for being too newbie, sorry...) |

RE: LOST HARD DRIVE after installing CSI + transmission 2.50
I have managed to install transmission in my PCH200, but using another computer. This one is a netbook with Windows 7 starter. Downloaded CSI installer, double click and worked. Still doesn't work in my other computer with XP, but I think I will never know and I hope I will never mind!
Now I have installed transmission remote gui in both computers and can use magnet links indistinctly from any of them. I have put a couple of them to download and I cross my fingers, hoping it works this time (this was the point I reached when I lost my HDD). So for the moment let's say it has worked! Thank you! |
