A300 Questions

Hi,
I currently have an A210 and one of my problems was always the network speeds, im looking to upgrade models and setup a 12TB NAS as Ive already filled two 3TB HD's so the streaming speed would make a huge difference, anyhow did you guys fix the gigabit compatibility and speeds in the A300 models? Also I currently have a Linksys E4200 gigabit router would that be compatible with the A300? Is there a WIKI for the A300 with a comparability list? Otherwise i was looking at getting a HP J9077A ProCurve 1400-8G as its compatible with the a210 and c200 so I'm guessing it would work with the A300? Sorry I tired a few searches for all this info but didn't come up with much

There is a page on the wiki, just search it. The situation is about the same as the A-200, where you won't get more than 200 mbit transfer speeds.

You don't need gig for streaming from a nas. Your nas needs gig, that will let you do fast copies to/from it while enjoying a video on the tv at the same time. Just setup smart. gig on the nas, if you have the pch running other software, move that to the nas also. It's faster cpu, it's faster transfers, better storage. Just setup your house smart and reduce the pch down to just your media player. I do this setup with 6 different players and everyone can watch something at the same time and no problems.

I have personally been using trendnet brand hardware lately for networking and very happy with it. low cost, no problems with any player models.

Hi what trendnet switch are you running and what boxes do you have? im also thinking of switching to egreat as all im doing is streaming now and 240$ a player seems like a lot for a box to stream too when theres 30+ brands to choose from. Suggestions?

I'll have to get back to you on the model when i'm home. I just found the cheapest 5 port gig model they had when I needed them. I want to say it's like $20-$40 depending on sales and where you get it.

I'd stay with the A210, the egreat is a downgrade to an a110. But it's hard to suggest anything because it's unclear what your after. If your moving all your storage to a nas, then copy speed and such becomes a nas to computer thing and the nas will be faster than the pch was. The pch is plenty fast enough to to watch your videos from the nas without problem.

Hi did you ever find out what switch is was, and do you get 15-16mbs with it on the a210?

I have models: TEG-S5g, TEG-S50g, and TEG-S80g. They've all had a variety of pch models connected to them with no issues. Basically picking up whatever I can find in the trendnet brand that is the cheapest as my other old gear has died.

cool i found the TEG-S80g for 35$ with free shipping on sale and just ordered my 4 Bay NAS ony 200$ after a 150$ rebate and some coupon codes.

I never answered your speed question. I never needed to worry about the speed to/from any model I have. They all have played everything I've tried and all my videos are on nas. I don't install drives, nmt or anything in the units so it's hard to test the copy speed just for the sake of seeing what it is
