I own on, and I'm waiting too. On one hand Syabas have said that they will allow user apps some day which is really great and I think the user community will really help the product. On the other hand I am also expecting to see the source from PCH so they can meet their legal obligations.
It will also give me something to look at while waiting. Martin |

Opening up the firmware will do *alot* good since there are tons of skilled coders around, besides that they have to open it up if they dont want to risk get sued by the GPL enforcing Companies.

I do not that they have to disclose the source as long as there is no GPL-code altered/used. They do not have to disclose anything as long as they are running embedded linux and have written (in combination with Sigma) all the source themselves.
Don't get wrong..... It would be fantastic for them to open up the PH. This would give this device so much more attention. I think they would sell a lot and I mean really a lot more. Look at xbmc and see what the community can do with a device! |

Indeed. They must public linux kernel sources and from the rest only things
which are GPL-based. May be busybox, if they used it. But you must know that if they use any GPL source WITHOUT modifications then they can simply release original sources. And, of course, if they not use any GPL-ed code inside main app (NMT), they don't have to public it. I understand that they want to remain NMT code closed. For all free-time coders would be enough to get something like PLUGIN API so all can code any crazy thing he likes. Big advantage will be having tons more or less interesting plugins w/o any man power from Syabas. But it create one disadvante - box can be (and trust me, it will) less stable because of code quality from free-time coders vary. BTW, don't get me wrong. I'm interested in opening NMT somehow. I have some own ideas what I like to add myself
