Will Plex ever work on the PCH?

I have been using Plex a TON on my iPad and love it. The interface is great and the media manager works flawlessly to gather all my show/movie information. I just wish it worked on the PCH for movies I want to watch in full surround and pristine picture.

Will any of the PCH boxes ever be able to support this?

the 200 series and 300 series and 400 series has a flash plex app that was a made by a user

Most people that use plex use some type of transcoding ability in it usually and people that buy NMT usually dont go for transcoding. If plex is that much of something you want a roku box might work for you. You should be able to sell your pch for more then the price of a roku

Oh wow. I was hesitant to upgrade to the 400 series until I saw there was some support for it. I'll have to check it out.

Just a dumb question about plex. How do you know it'll it is or isn't transcoding. I would be all for testing it as long as I know for sure I am not losing quality. But the settings don't say much. Only transcoding speak is for 3g I believe, but will look again. I put it on my usb just never booted it. Would also be curious about performance as I hate the load times with even the evhell or zapitti on the a200 or a110

it's always transcoding unless your client specific tells it not too. it might have some better logic on the upnp side for device they know about and specific settings or codecs it can let just pass through.

Plex client can be set to "directplay" only or "directplay w/[transocding] fallback"... I leave mine on DirectPlay only and adjust it manually, so you effectively get notified if you have to retry with transcoding.

Best avoided though as quality really drops markedly when you're transcoding!

I'm currently in the process of "upgrading" from a PCH-A110 to a Roku2XS and found everything except the boot time and UI in the Roku2 to be a huge step backwards... from the time you hit play until you're back on the Plex UI, it's just a disappointment: the Roku2 has MUCH lower quality video and stereo only audio when transcoding and huge "buffering" delays despite being on a 1Gbps hardwired LAN.
Things really improve quality-wise if you disable transcoding, but it is unstable and constantly crashing during MKV playback (and sound often not present at all!)... and that's on the ones where it doesn't just tell you to retry with Trasncoding enabled

Looking for some assurances that the PCH-A400 will have all my fantastic PCH playback quality plus the ability to use Plex.... fingers crossed!!!

see the dev/user apps forum for the only plex client in alpha testing for the pch. it's a personal project of someones and does improve with releases every month or two. people see happy with it. I believe once he gets it more rounded it will be added to the app market but it's still early on in the progress.

plex themselves were making an app about 2-3 years ago. no idea why they never finished or released it.

still alpha software but you can use it to watch movie via plex
