RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
Thanks for all the help. I have just aquired the NMT A-110 and I am in the process of starting my video library.

When I use the clone option on DVDFab (settings as this post recommends), the resulting file causes the NMT to lock up. Not sure what is happening.

I have ripped with the Full Disc Option and the resulting file set works just fins. I like the idea of a single file thought.

Any suggestions?

RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
Use IMGBurn to create an ISO from the output from DVDFab if its a video_ts folder and then try that.

RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
Does it matter what UDF revision you select in the options tab in imgburn when creating an .iso from a VIDEO_TS folder?

RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
Two questions:

1. What does actually happen when you compress a DVD9 (8.something GB) to DVD5 (4.something GB)? I mean, what sort of information is lost, and most importantly, what happens to the quality?

2. In the initial post it says "This guide covers making a Single Layer ISO on your Hard Drive". What does single layer ISO on harddrive mean? (When it comes to the physical DVD medium, it makes sense to me, but not referring to an ISO on the harddrive.) Does it refer to size (4.something GBs) or does it have something to do with the structure of the ISO?

Would someone care to enlighten me, please.

Yes it does make sure you choose UDF 1.02. There are other UDF standards available but stick with 1.02 for greatest compatibility in case you ever want to burn an ISO to DVD-R.

1. It does as you suggest it compresses the data. It has a detrimental effect on quality and should be avoided whenever possible. It is fine to strip out streams that you do not want such as foreign languages or subtitles to reduce overall filesize but do not compress unless storage space dictates.

2. It means taking the actual disc image and creating it on a PC HDD. A PC HDD is not limited to DVD5 or DVD9, obviously the disc will at most be a DVD9 but you do not have to compress as you are not planning to burn the ISO just stream or play it from the HDD.
If you ever wanted to burn the image then you have two options:-
i) Burn onto a DVD9 and let IMGBurn create a new layer break
ii) Load the ISO into the likes of DVDShrink and compress so it fits onto a DVD5.

RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
Can you clarify where to find this m2ts file, which you say the PCH will use after you rip a BD disc? Your guide is great, for someone new like me it made it really easy to get started. But I am having trouble with BDs. If I "rip to image", as you suggest for BDs, then I only get an iso file. Where/what is the m2ts file? Do I just get that directly off of the BD? Thanks for all your work!

RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
I am new to this site and this idea of ripping dvds to my soon to arrive popcorn.
I thought i would start riping my dvds in advance of receipt of the popcorn.

All seems fine with the excellent tutorials, howver I seem to be limited to a 4gig file size due to my laptop using FAT32 and not NTFS

Is there anyway around this, beacuse I want to keep the highest quality video files ?

I have seen that you can change your fiel system to NTFS, is that what all you guys do or are you using pcs with different file systems.

cheers for your response

This is not a BD Ripping guide its is for SD DVD's.

You need to use ToNMT on the BD ISO that you have ripped with AnyDVD. Please search the forum for the ToNMT thread.

You can change a FAT32 formatted HDD to NTFS quite easily on a Windows PC:-

FAT is really a thing of the past now.

RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
Noobs questions...

I take it there are no unattended rippers out there? ie whack in a disk, automatically ripped then ejected say for headless server.

So to clarify
Use AnyDVD to copy the DVD to the hard disk
For maxium compatibility use IMGBurn to go to ISO
Delete the AnyDVD source files

Why do I want to go to an ISO?
I want to keep the source files as intact as possible and storage is not a problem.
What do I need to do to keep the menu and the movie content but dump the ads and copywrights etc.?

RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
Okay here goes ..Some ISO's play great ....Using Ripit all SD no BR.....All Discs used RIPIT to VIDEO TS.... Play fine on Mac...after RIP... I use DMG CONVERTER, SET to cross platform images to convert to ISO.....some play fine (BOLT) some start fine then stop after 4 or so chapters (mamma mia)( mamma mia all menus show all previews play,,all chapters show in menu but as soon as you choose a chapter above 4 it locks the A100 up i have to reboot...
this is the case hit or miss or is there a better way to do this ?
by the by all the iso's that i burn play on the MAC desk top just fine ....
suggestions, other then get a PC Smile would be greatly appreciated.
when it works it works great ...the WAF goes down the tube when she starts watching and it stops.

RE: DVD Ripping & ISO Guide
Dont have a MAC and in the past when I've looked into it one thing that always put me off was the limited software. Put the ISO on a USB stick and try to play it, via enter to see if its rip or Network related.

@garm999 - to remove trailers and copyright warning look at the AnyDVD settings options. You do not have to go from video_ts folder to ISO, if you do use IMGBurn.
