Adding another PCH
Hello,
I purchased my first A100 PCH not too long ago, maybe about a month and have gone through several bluray discs to MKV which has been fantastic. The issue now? I want to be able to watch these great movies from my bedroom as well. At firs it has been easy enough to move the PCH from the living room to the bedroom, but that is now kind of a hassle, I'd like to enjoy the 1080p rips on my bedroom lcd as well as on my living room tv. Can I purchase a 2nd PCH and somehow daisy chain them, leaving the one w/ the HDD in the living room and place the HDD less one in the bedroom? or are there easier ways of doing this... I also have an older MVP which would suffice for the kids for viewing standard xvid rips. any advise is helpful Thanks!!! (PCH ROCKS!!)

Eg the one in the loungeroom you could play off local disk, and the one in the bedroom via network connection or visa versa. I guess potentially you may be able to browse from on PCH to another - doubt that it would give you enough performance for streaming tho. Best scenario would be to use network streaming on both devices so you can centralise your movie collection. |

RE: Adding another PCH
Having a second unit with no internall HDD or external USB works just fine in my house.
You do need network connection in the house, and if possible a wired connection is best. If you can't, you can either try your luck with a wireless dongle/key or use a powerline network adapters with at least 85 Mbps throughput. When you look for SOURCES on the diskless PCH unit, it will find the other PCH unit as a myihome connection with network streaming. I can't comment on the 1080p playback since right now the internal HDD mostly contains kids 720p and DVD content, but they work just fine. If your bedroom LCD is only capable of 720p ouput, you should stick to encodes made for that, as opposed to streaming 1080p which seems pointless for that location, and it be down-converted and might not look its' best. |

RE: Adding another PCH
Thanks for the feedback, I actually currently have wireless ap client devices in both the bedroom and living room (802.11g) so it's not the best connection by far, I've so far tried streaming DVD content from my NAS, but have not tried the 720p nor any 1080p streaming... the tv in the bedroom is capable of 1080p resolution so I think I will put in a purchase order for a new popcorn hour, this device is sooo cool I find myself ripping my dvds and bluray discs since I bought this thing... finding the movie you want online is much faster and much more fun than going trough shelves full of movies

I have four PCH's scattered about the house, tried wireless, it was a nightmare. It isn't the PCH that is the problem, it is wireless. Do yourself a big favor, wire them. ND |

RE: Adding another PCH
^Are you streaming over an unprotected wireless network, or are you using some degree of encryption?
My wireless gear admittedly is not the highest quality, but when I ran some tests on video streaming earlier I was forced to turn off all encryption for it to run smoothly. Media tank:A-100 & C-200 TV:Panasonic TH-50PY800MT (HDMI) Audio:Logitech Z-5500 (Coaxial) |

RE: Adding another PCH
I find encryption in my LAN to be a waste.
I've found that simply setting up MAC address filtering is the easiest kind of protection. |
