Distorted MP3 Playback on New Firmware
Hi All,

I have an odd problem which has only appeared since upgrading the PCH to the latest firmware. When I playback any MP3 music file, the sound is awful. It's distorted and not very clear. It was perfect on the old firmware. Movies are o.k. sound wise. It appears to be just the MP3 files.

Anyone else experienced similar issues or know a fix?

RE: Distorted MP3 Playback on New Firmware
Lower the volume to 44 or below using the remote volume buttons (if you don't know where they are, read the Wiki).

All levels over 44 introduce distortion.

Since Syabas wanted to avoid complaints such as yours, in an earlier firmware they removed the ability to go higher than 0dB but then got many complaints from users who had files with low audio or insufficient amplification capacity in their audio output device. So the levels above were re-introduced.

Media tank:A-100 & C-200
TV:Panasonic TH-50PY800MT (HDMI)
Audio:Logitech Z-5500 (Coaxial)

Ah that explains it! Thanks. I had turned the volume all the way up for movie playback as it was quite quiet. I'll turn it back to 44.

Thanks again.

RE: Distorted MP3 Playback on New Firmware
wow, this should be wikid. when a new firmware comes out, these things should be mentioned so we don't post.

I will try the magic # of 44 volume to see if it makes any diff.

My friends were getting a tour of my popcorn when they said, man that sound is terrible.
I blamed my mp3 files for being bad quality. Now this explains.

Thanks again.

RE: Distorted MP3 Playback on New Firmware
A hint for PCH development team: to avoid further confusion, I would suggest to change volume display to be relative against 0 dB. So for example today's 44 would translate into 0 dB, 50 to +6 dB, 0 to -44 dB etc.
