1080p playback.
so far i've only got 2 1080p encodes to successfully playback on my A-110 via smb from my Mac. why are most 1080p encodes extremely pixelated? here's some info i got from mediainfo on a encode i want to play. anyone got any ideas?

RE: 1080p playback.
Encoded out of spec:
Quote:Format profile : High@L5.0Should be max 3 reference frames when using that profile. Note that Blueray and HDDVD are not even on High@L5.0. In short: find another source. You migth get lucky with a remux, but it's not a warranted solution. Audio, video, disco - I hear, I see, I learn. Wiki. Wiki? Wiki! |

RE: 1080p playback.
why doesn't the A-110 support "High@L5.0"? will it support "High@L5.0" in the future? only asking because i'm pretty sure 90% of the 1080p encodes i want to download have "High@L5.0". kinda defeats the purpose of buying it..

RE: 1080p playback.
Because the industry standards for any normal consumer HD content, weather this being bluray, hd-dvd, hdtv, hd-cameras, whatever is only up to Profile High@L4.1
Anything above just comes from amateurs doing their own reencodes without knowing what they are doing. There is absolutely no reason to reencode to a higher profile than the original. Crappy encodes are the risk you take when downloading illegal rips from the internet. It does not come with a quality or compliancy warranty. The PCH use a hardware decoder which have been designed to play media that complys to industry standards, just like any other HD player - not to play crappy encodes. Living room: C200/A200/A100 HDMI to Pioneer KURO KRP-500A plasma / Denon AVR 3808 / KEF 5005.2 / B&W DM685 Kids room: C200/A110 HDMI to Panasonic 42PZ85, Optical to Logitech Z5500. Hi Spawn. I spent too long writing my reply and you beat me to it
![]() (10-19-2008 12:55 PM)tony187 Wrote: why doesn't the A-110 support "High@L5.0"? will it support "High@L5.0" in the future? The current Blu Ray spec is for High@L4.0. Anything higher than that is simply not playable by any proper player. PCs can play them because they are general purpose calculation engines with CPU/GPU power to burn. Hardware players (DVD, Blu Ray and the Popcorn NMT etc) can only play what they have been built for. Quote:...only asking because i'm pretty sure 90% of the 1080p encodes i want to download have "High@L5.0". kinda defeats the purpose of buying it.. The majority of 1080p encodes are NOT High@L5.0. I have almost 2 Terabytes of files so I think I can say this with "some" confidence. The bottom line is that these 1080p encodes have been encoded incorrectly Having said that you may find the occasion 1080p L5.0 encode which the Popcorn will still play. I think the Matrix Reloaded is one of the more popular ones like this although it suffers from Audio dropouts. 720p L5.0 encodes on the whole seem to work! Its very CPU intensive and takes a lot of time but could be worth it. Otherwise stick to the 720p and search/wait for sensible 1080p encodes of the files. Enjoy

RE: 1080p playback.
Not sure if mkvtoolnix is available for Mac?
If it is, I think it should be possible to use mkvmergeGUI which is part of mkvtoolnix to demux the mkv, splitting it into the separate video, audio and subtitle tracks (if any). Then load the raw video track in handbrake. These links might be helpful, not sure if everything will work on your configuration though, I am not a Mac user myself. http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/m...07739.html http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtool...loads.html Media tank:A-100 & C-200 TV:Panasonic TH-50PY800MT (HDMI) Audio:Logitech Z-5500 (Coaxial) |
