NMT Settings

Under current firmware releases you really should only use "manual IP" mode and not "automatic". There is a bug where the NMT doesn't correctly store your network's supplied DNS (domain name server) IP addresses and so the internet services (Media service portal, saya TV, youtube, etc.) will probably NOT work correctly if you don't enter your own "manual IP" settings. From main screen choose setup -> network -> mode...change to "manual IP"...click on [save].
Next choose [configure IP] button and check the IP numbers in each field. For the two DNS fields you should use either the DNS IPs supplied by your ISP (Internet service provider) or the internal IP address of your home router.

How do I get NFS/SMB/UPNP AV Server functions from the NMT?

Please note that streaming TO the NMT is possible without an internal hard disk. In other words, you do not need the NMT applications to stream media from your computer to watch on the NMT. This section describes what you need when you want to stream FROM your NMT to another networked device.

You need to install an internal HDD and the NMT apps in order to get the following servers on your NMT:

1. SMB server
2. NFS server
3. UPnP AV server
4. myiHome server
5. FTP server
6. Torrent downloader
7. Usenet downloader

The default username/password for remote access and FTP is:

A100/110 username:ftpuser password:1234. C200 username:nmt password:1234.

The default username/password for SMB access is:

username:nmt password:1234

the share name is share

(prior to firmware 01-15-080330-14-POP-402 any user name with a blank password worked)

For NFS, the hard drive is exported under the following path:

/opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/HARD_DISK

Since firmware 01-17-080822-15-POP-402 (maybe before) this is exported via the symbolic link

/share

which points to the same location.

Windows XP Networking Tips

Security Policies

To modify Windows XP local security policies, go to Control Panel>Administrative tools>Local Security Policy:

Ensure that:

  • The guest account is not listed under "Deny access to computer from network"
  • The guest account is listed under "Access this computer from the network"

Network Connections

Ensure that NETBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled (TCP/IP properties, Advanced, WINS)

Windows Vista Network Tips

Having trouble seeing your devices on your network

If you are like me and have a NAS device on your network that is not compatible with Windows Vista, now you can tweak Windows Vista to make it work again. You do not even have to wait for your device manufacturer to release a new firmware any more! Just follow these steps below:

  1. Click on the Start Button and key in secpol.msc in the search box and hit Enter.
  2. When the Local Security Policy editor has loaded, expand Local Policies and select Security Options.
  3. Scroll through the list and locate "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level."
  4. Right click on this setting and select Properties.
  5. Change the setting to "Send LM & NTML - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
  6. Hit OK and your NAS will work again.
